Confession
Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 10:05PM So, tonight, after I laid Sean down for bed, I took the baby monitor (he's 17 months old), locked the back door, and walked around the corner for a soda at the convenience store. I guess I should fess up here that Danielle is on TAD (temporary assigned duty) several states away.
I was gone maybe three minutes, but on my way back around the corner I ran into someone I know from our breakfast place.
"Where's the baby?" she said.
"He's at home," I said.
"Where's home?" she asked, looking like she was about to light into me about my poor parenting.
"Around the corner," I said. Then I showed her the baby monitor, and she seemed appeased.
At no time was Sean in any danger, and I was never more than about a hundred yards from the house, but I know that this woman will walk into the diner at the bottom of the hill tomorrow morning and say, "Guess who I saw out last night without the baby."
Oh, the perils of living in a small town.
