The Husbands' Club > What Are You Reading
I'm reading The Stand, by Stephen King, right now. King is a great storyteller. No matter what his detractors might say.
Before this I read The Soul of a New Machine, by Tracy Kidder, a nonfiction book about the creation of a new computer (in 1979). It's a classic narrative about the computer biz, if you're interested.
Man, I read "The Soul of a New Machine" a couple times in high school after getting it as a gift - yep, that geeky. I was just thinking of that book the other day and that it would be an even more interesting read today.
My last read was "Six Frigates," by Ian W. Toll, a history of the early Navy from its inception through the war of 1812. Granted, it's a subject and a time period that I'm especially interested in, but he made it spellbinding. By coincidence, I was reading about ADM Bainbridge during the Barbary wars at the same time that the USS Bainbridge was staring down pirates off the Horn of Africa.
Specifically, I learned that Bainbridge ran the USS Philadelphia aground and spent the war as a "guest" in Tripoli -- the ship that bears his name had a much better time of things.

In honor of our first reply in the forum from Bryan B., a professor who enjoys reading (I don't know how you could be a prof and not enjoy it), we thought a books thread would be a good idea.
So, what are you reading? Got any recommendations? Favorite authors? Read something that was truly horrible and want to warn off the rest of us?
